Welcome Friends of Renal Care Glan Clwyd
The Friends of Renal Care Glan Clwyd Charity was launched in 2006 by patients, carers and supporters of the Glan Clwyd Renal Unit at Glan Clwyd NHS Trust Hospital, Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, North Wales with advice and support from senior medics and nurses of the renal unit.
The charity is an independent group but does come under the umbrella registration of the North Wales NHS Trust (Central) Charitable Funds Number 1047989.
The role and aims of the charity is to raise funds for any medical equipment beyond that normally supplied by the NHS and that is deemed necessary and a priority for the care, treatment and welfare of patients in all departments of the Glan Clwyd Renal Unit.
Patients receiving dialysis treatment spend many hours each week undergoing their treatment and Glan Clwyd Renal Unit is able to offer educational activities which the Friends of Renal Care like to support to secure there long term future so any new patients in the future may enjoy the same opportunities.
Some patients may prefer to try and just relax and pass the long hours by watching DVD’s, listening to the radio, or playing electronic games and the charity will also raise funds for these pass time activities too.
Another vitally important part of The Friends of Renal Care Glan Clwyd’s work is to raise public awareness of the plight of people suffering renal (kidney) failure. Many members of the public will be unaware as to how serious the condition of kidney failure is to an individual. Once diagnosed with kidney failure it is the hours of treatment a patient receives on dialysis that will keep them alive until they enjoy the ultimate joy of receiving a successful kidney transplant.
. . . And so for this reason public awareness and support of kidney charities whether national or local like The Friends of Renal Care Glan Clwyd deserve your support so they can carry on with their support work for renal units and the research needed to advance all aspects of renal care.
The day to day runing of the charity is made up of a volunteer team of renal patients, carers and supporters along with Honorary President Dr. M. J. Kumwenda FRCP, Consultant Nephrologist.
